The Border Protection Corps is subordinate to the land arm and its role is to carry out routine security activities, gather combat intelligence and guard and protect Israel's borders.

The Border Protection Corps (until July 2020 the Border Defense Formation) is a union of the Border Defense Formation and the Combat Collection Corps and under its command are five battalions that were previously called light infantry: Carakal, Jordan Lions, Cheetahs, Bekaa Levies and Panthers, and five sectorial combat collection battalions, Consisting of female observers and fighters, some of the fighting companies are male or female only and some are mixed.
