About the Battalion

The Bedouin Reconnaissance Battalion carries out routine security missions in the Gaza region, Judea and Samaria and along the Egyptian border.

The battalion originated from the Desert Reconnaissance Unit established in 1986 to intercept infiltrators and criminal or terrorist smugglers crossing from Egypt. In 1993, the unit was expanded and became a full reconnaissance battalion.

Battalion soldier's complete infantry basic training (Rifleman 07) together with the Givati Brigade, followed by a three‑month advanced training course. In some cases, companies continue for an additional four‑month training phase.

The training program also includes Hebrew studies and lessons about Israeli society, helping soldiers integrate successfully into the IDF and later into civilian life.
