The Desert Reconnaissance 585 Army unit; also known as "the Bedouin Reconnaissance Army unit" or " The Desert Rangers" is an infantry Army unit composed primarily of Bedouin soldiers, but also Israeli Arabs, Circassia's and Christians.

The  unit was officially established in 1992 and at the beginning of 1993 became operational battalion.

Battalion soldiers undergo basic training at the training at the Givati  brigade base in Ketziot, along with soldiers from the Givati Brigade. The training consists of infantry basic training and advanced training.

Military operations of this regiment are now focused on Gaza and the Israeli-Egyptian border.

On July 4, 2017, the patrol battalion was converted into a patrol unit, reducing the number of servicemen in the unit, and integrating the other fighters into the various IDF brigades.

The unit's clothing includes a purple beret with logo infantry and red combat boots.
