The Erez unit - "The Alpinists" or "Hermonites" is a special reserve unit of the infantry, belonging to the Northern Command of the Israel Defense Forces.
The "Alpinists" unit is defined as a mountain warfare unit designed for combat in extreme weather conditions and snow conditions, in the Mount Hermon sector and the northern border.
The Hermonites unit conducts spatial defense, attack and shooting training while moving quickly while skiing in advanced ski equipment, ski motorcycles and special snowcats with high offense. The unit's armament includes M4 Carbine and Tabor assault rifles, a "Negev" light machine gun and M24 and SR-25 sniper rifles.
